Stored-product insects are associated with a wide variety
of commodities. In the literature, commodities are often
reported by their common name. For readers more familiar
with the scientific names of commodities than with the
common names, Table 7.1 will allow them to look up a
common name for a commodity using the scientific name.
The commodities listed in Table 7.1 belong to 70 families.
Five families have 10 or more species, i.e., Fabaceae has
94, Poaeae has 22, Rosaeae has 13, Solanaceae has 12 and
Asteraceae has 10. Delobel and Tran (1993) and Golob et
al. (2003) also have chapters cross referencing the scientific
names of commodities and their common names.
Table 7.2 list of the scientific name for each common
name. For many scientific names there are several common
names. For the 289 scientific names, there are 461 common
names.
